Day 157: New Year, New Adventures!
I always find New Years incredibly refreshing. The start of 2019 was particularly exciting because I was able to ring in the new year with my family in Madrid. During the time they were here we explored the different barrios of Madrid and visited the medieval city of Toledo and the small city of Alcalá de Henares, the city I studied abroad in 2 years ago. We followed Spanish tradition by watching the fireworks in the center of Madrid while eating 12 grapes with the chiming of the bells (actually we couldn’t hear the bells from the fireworks and crowd, so I just ate them as fast as I could without choking)! Shortly after my family’s visit, I hosted my best friend and soon (tomorrow) I will be leaving for our Fulbright Mid Year Conference in Valencia, the coastal capital of the Valencian Community of Spain.
This year I’ve decided not to make New YEARS resolutions. No, that is too much pressure. I’ve instead challenged myself to small new MONTH resolutions. To be honest, January was a very relaxed month where I went to the gym maybe 3 times and mainly worked on my research casually and relaxed. When February came along, I had a renewed energy similar to what others may feel during the new year. THIS month’s resolutions are: 1. drink more water, 2. go to bed earlier, and 3. see where that takes me.
As far as my research, I am excited to say that I am finally seeing big progress in my project. I have completed the survey I will be distributing and am just working on finishing touches, which should be finished by next week. I am going to record an introduction to the survey that will be a video of me signing in Spanish sign language (LSE), doing a voice over in Spanish, with Spanish subtitles. This will be my first time doing something like this, so I’m eager but at the same time nervous that students around Spain will watch me sign in a language in which I’m still a beginner.
Regardless, things are picking up pace and I’m looking forward to sharing updates from Valencia!
